opal care

Wear Mindfully: Opals measure approximately 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale and should be treated with care. Remove your opal jewelry before swimming, exercising, gardening, household cleaning, or other activities that may expose the stone to impact, abrasion, or chemicals.

Clean Gently: Avoid harsh chemicals, steam, and ultrasonic cleaners. Clean the stone gently with a soft, damp cloth and, when needed, a small amount of mild soap.

Avoid Extreme Temperature Changes: Opals can be sensitive to sudden or extreme changes in temperature, which may contribute to cracking or crazing. Australian boulder opals are generally more stable in this regard than some other varieties of opal
